Ultimate Summer Sunglasses Trend Guide

by Alistair Martin on Jun 04, 2018
Ultimate Summer Sunglasses Trend Guide

Now is the perfect time to reassess your closet and give your accessories a 2018 update. This year is all about the sunglasses, with more designers than ever showcasing their own collections on the runway.

If you want to look fashion-forward, fabulous, and bang on trend then here is our ultimate summer 2018 sunglasses trend guide:

Look to the Runway

Cats eye

One of the biggest runway trends for 2018 is the rise of the cats eye sunglasses. Every high-end designer, from Miu Miu to Louis Vuitton showed cats eye shaped shades in their latest collection. This is a very distinctive and feminine trend best suited to women with heart shaped or oval faces, but the beauty about oversized high fashion frames such as these is that almost anyone can wear them! Throw them on with confidence and turn heads.

Futuristic Wraps

Thanks to the continued sports luxe trend that is completely dominating the fashion industry, sporty wrap sunglasses are still definitely in vogue. For 2018 though, they have been given a futuristic update. Think Keanu Reeves in the Matrix, but without the ugly leather coat! We love wrap sunglasses for outdoor pursuits, particularly if you’re looking for something practical and fashion-forward to wear on the beach.

Go for Gold

Finally, when it comes to choosing the colour of your frames, why not leave traditional black and brown glasses in the shade and go for gold instead? Metallics have always been popular for sunglasses frames, but gunmetal and silver shades are considered safe and traditional. Does the idea of a bold gold frame seem a little too bling? Then look for frames with gold accents and detailing instead: we particularly love traditional tortoiseshell when it is given a modern update with flecks of added gold.

Our Favourite Fashion-Forward Celebs

If you’re more interested in seeing real people wearing this season’s hottest shades trends then you’re in luck, because many high-profile celebrities are already sporting some of this season’s best trends.

For inspiration for the ladies, look to kooky models such as Agnes Deyne, Lily Cole and even the more mainstream Kendall Jenner for ideas on how to push the boundaries with this season’s sunglasses trends. Meanwhile gents should keep one eye on Hollywood’s favourite A-listers such as Chris Hemsworth and Leonardo Di Caprio, or, if you want to embrace the ‘go for gold’ metallic trend then Justin Bieber and Lewis Hamilton are great role models.

Choose Your Corner

So which corner will you be fighting in? Which of 2018’s hottest new trends will suit you best? A good rule of thumb is to wear wrap sunglasses if your face is natural square or oval shapes, whilst cats eye sunglasses are best suited to fashionistas with round or heart shaped faces. The added height at the top of the glasses is ideal for adding balance and creating detail.

Still struggling to choose? There’s no rule that says you have to choose just one new pair of sunglasses for 2018! Why not throw caution to the wind and invest in all three of our favourite new season trends?
